Most content about growth hacking is written by people who have never actually grown anything.

HackingStory exists to fix that.

About HackingStory

This is a publication dedicated to reverse-engineering how startups and companies really grew — not the polished version, not the TED talk.

The actual tactics, the experiments that worked, the channels that didn’t, and the metrics that mattered. Real stories from people who figured it out by doing.

Why this site exists

There is no shortage of marketing content online. There is a serious shortage of content that is honest, specific, and written by someone who has spent years in the trenches.

After 12 years as a Senior SEO professional — working across some of the most competitive domains on the internet — I kept noticing the same pattern: the companies that grew fastest weren’t following generic playbooks. They were identifying one lever, pulling it hard, and doubling down before anyone else caught on.

That’s what HackingStory covers.

What you’ll find here

🚀 Growth hacking case studies — Deep dives into how specific companies went from zero to traction — Dropbox, Airbnb, and the less obvious ones too.

🔍 SEO for startups — Technical and content SEO strategies for early-stage companies with limited budgets and no domain authority yet.

🤖 AI Visibility — How to show up in AI-generated answers on Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Gemini — the channel most startups are ignoring right now.

🗺️ Founder playbooks — Growth frameworks explained the way practitioners actually use them: AARRR, ICE scoring, North Star Metric, viral coefficient.

Who this is for

HackingStory is written for startup founders, growth marketers, and operators at early-stage startups who are done reading advice that sounds good but leads nowhere.

If you’re trying to grow organic traffic from scratch, find the right growth lever, or understand how top startups built distribution — you’re in the right place.

About the author

Matthis Duarte — Senior SEO Manager

I’m a Senior SEO professional with over 12 years of experience working across highly competitive industries.

I’ve analysed hundreds of websites, run content strategies for large-scale domains, and spent a significant part of my career understanding what actually moves the needle in organic growth — versus what just looks good in a report.

HackingStory is my attempt to package that experience into something useful: not a content farm, not AI-generated filler, but deep editorial content written from a real practitioner’s perspective.
